Geological & geotechnical mapping

The geological map of Algeria, in your browser.

LX MAPPER puts 159 surveyed geological sheets, 3D terrain analysis and field-grade coordinate tools in one workspace — no install, no GIS licence, nothing to configure. Built by a working geological engineer for the way site studies actually get done.

What it does

Everything below runs in the browser. Your projects are saved to your account, so the work you leave on one machine is waiting on the next.

The ASGA sheets, ready to use

The published geological maps of Algeria, georeferenced and tiled so a sheet appears in seconds instead of downloading a hundred-megabyte scan. Overlay them on satellite imagery at any opacity.

Terrain analysis

Draw an area of interest, pull elevation data for it, and generate slope maps, contour lines at your chosen interval, and hydrographic networks with Strahler stream ordering.

Georeference a scanned map

Bring in an old paper map or a site plan, place ground control points, and warp it into position — affine, polynomial or thin-plate spline, with RMS error reported as you go.

Trace units automatically

The magic wand turns a coloured region on a scanned geological map into an editable polygon, with tolerance control and boundary simplification.

Coordinates that match your field notes

WGS 84, UTM zones 29N–32N, Nord Sahara and NTF Paris. Read a point off the map, convert a bulk list, or export a table for the report.

Works with what you already have

Import GeoJSON, KML, KMZ, GPX, Shapefile, GeoTIFF and DXF. Export to KMZ for Google Earth, GeoTIFF for other GIS software, or a captioned image for the report.

Access

There is no automatic sign-up. Tell me who you are and what you need it for, and I will set your access level by hand — which is also why there is no spam and no scraping here.

Who built it

LX MAPPER is built and maintained by TEBANI Mehdi, a geological and geotechnical engineer. It began as a tool for his own site studies — loading survey sheets, digitising units, checking slopes before a visit — and grew into the workspace he wanted and could not find.

That is why it handles Nord Sahara and NTF grids alongside WGS 84, and why the geological sheets are the first thing you see rather than an afterthought. It is shaped around the work, not around a generic GIS.
